
Nigerians are reacting to the increasing high cost of living as prices of products and food produce increase on a daily basis in the market.
On Twitter, a user , known as Trojan Horse prayed for God’s help as electricity bills, fuel priest and transport fares are high with prices of foodstuff increasing and VAT as well. He lamented that with all of these, basic salary has remained constant for years.
Another Twitter user, by name Arinze Odira and known as Captain Arinze in agreement with the initial post said that the cost of living is sky rocketing but wages/salaries have remained constant. He went on to say that the middle class is gradually disappearing, the lower class are sinking into poverty and the poor are turning into hoodlums. Calling it a hopeless situation , he expressed that we can hold on to vibes and put our hope on God.
Another user known as Lassie that it will be hard for parents with children schooling overseas as the exchange rate has hit 470 naira per dollar. Lassie decried that exchange rate has made some people poorer.
However on Facebook, Abba Alkali Goni posted thY despite the current high cost of living as a result of world security and economic crisis as well as the Covid-19 pandemic, President Buhari’s achievements in terms of welfare of civil servants and workers remain unprecedented. He also said that the president also assisted private business owners through the Covid-19 relief funds as well as Covid-19 loans where employers were assisted by cushioning the hardship of the lockdown on their livelihoods.
