Nigerians React As VP Kashim Shettima Commissions Design and Construction Of Vice President’s N15bn Residence In Abuja
Nigerians have continued to react as Vice President Kashim Shettima commissioned the Design and Construction of the Vice President’s Residence in Abuja on June 7.
The construction of the new residence for the vice president was initially approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2010 at a cost of N7 billion.
However, the project, which was left unfinished by Buhari administration, has been renovated with a contract review costing N15 billion by the Tinubu-led administration.
Reacting to the development, Nigerians see it as a mere waste of national resources.
They described the present administration as very callous and insensitive to plight of the citizens who have been subjected to untold economic hardship when federal government has committed such amount of money just to redesign and renovate the building.
Others wondered how federal government can sink N15bn to renovate a building when it can not pay workers considerable amount of money as monthly salaries.
Some citizens also lamented that when most of the nation’s infrastructural facilities are like hospitals, roads are in such deplorable condition, government has the heart and mind to spend N15bn to renovate a residential building,
Meanwhile, it was reported that Newsmen were not allowed to join the tour of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s N21 billion official residence which was unveiled on Friday.
The moderator of the inauguration ceremony, announced the prohibition of press coverage of the tour of the grand edifice for reason of privacy.
It was gathered that only top government functionaries, federal lawmakers and Julius Berger team were allowed to take the guided tour.
