NUC raises private university application fee by over 400%

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has increased the application fee for establishing private universities in Nigeria by over 400%.

Executive Secretary Abdullahi Ribadu announced that the fee for purchasing application forms has risen from ₦1 million to ₦5 million, while the processing fee jumped from ₦5 million to ₦25 million. The NUC says the hike is aimed at ensuring private universities meet 21st-century educational standards.

Additionally, the commission has suspended inactive applications and imposed a one-year moratorium on new private university applications.
