A President from Southeast Nigeria will ensure political balance and promote a sense of belonging to the region.
This was the submission of the President-General of Igbo social cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof George Obiozor on a television interview on Thursday.
Noting it was only the Southeast that had not been given a shot at the presidency since the return of democracy in 1999, the former Ambassador to the United States said history, the principle of fairness, morality and logical reasoning justified the demand for an Igbo president, calling on the government to create a political equilibrium that accommodates all the regions and adding that the Southeast has qualified candidates who can re-energise the nationalist spirit in Nigeria and perform well if elected.
Making a case for state police as well, Obiozor noted it was the surest way to solving the country’s security challenges.
He also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to use the prerogative of mercy and not force to resolve pending issues against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.
