The National League One (NLO) side Aspire FC of Adazi-ani Anambra state and NLO Group D2 leaders has qualified to play at the Nigeria National League (NNL) after beating Essien Ayi FC of Calabar one goal to nothing at Aper Aku stadium Makurdi for NLO playoff. The goal came in the early minutes of the second half after they ended the first half on a goaless draw.
David Okoye scored the only goal that gave his side promotion at 50th minutes.
Recall that Aspire FC made it to two consecutive playoffs which they lost to Udala FC last season but kept fighting till they got to the playoff this season.
Aspire FC topped their group D2 playing eight games, with six wins, one Draw and lost one game, scoring 17 goals, conceding six goals with 17 points.
The former FA cup holders will began their campaign in NNL in few weeks as the League management company (LMC) has announced the resumption of the league and they have short time to prepare for the new season.
Speaking to our Sports correspondent Marvelous Ezenwa, Aspire FC Team manager Austin Okoye Amakom thanked God for the victory and promotion, commending his boys for putting in a good fight.
Amakom explained how gaining the promotion to NNL has been their utmost desire and noted that the work has just begun and will not be easy but promised to give his fans and Ndi Anambra a good representation with his team of officials.
Amakom Commended his Boss the President of Aspire FC Chief Dr Emeka Okeke (Ikemba Di Ugwu) who has never given up, even when they were losing, but gave them the enabling environment to do their jobs diligently
Also Speaking to kpakpando correspondent Aspire FC’s Head coach Obinna Amah expressed his happiness over the promotion and commended his boys for fighting like Champions the are. He also thanked their fans for their support and also their Boss Dr Emeka Okeke for his support .
