In a historic moment, Pelumi Nubi, a United Kingdom-based Nigerian, completed her solo road trip from London to Lagos, arriving at the Nigeria/Benin Republic border at Seme, Badagry on Sunday. The Lagos State Government warmly received her, led by Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe.
Nubi’s journey began on January 31, 2024, and concluded on April 7, 2024, covering multiple countries across Europe and Africa. She drove through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, and several others before reaching Lagos.
Upon her arrival at the Seme border, Nubi expressed her excitement and gratitude, thanking Nigerians for their warm welcome and support throughout her journey. She emphasized the challenges she faced, including border controls, an accident, and moments of loneliness, but highlighted the joy of showcasing Africa to the world.
Special Adviser Aregbe commended Nubi for her determination, describing her as a role model for other young Lagosians. He praised her for embodying the can-do spirit and contributing to the rising tourism profile of Lagos.
Nubi’s mother, Mrs. Olubukola Nubi, spoke proudly of her daughter’s adventurous spirit and achievements, expressing gratitude for her safe return and praying for her continued success.
