Police in Anambra State said it rescued three armed robbery suspects from being lynched by a mob on Tuesday.
The suspects, who are all male, identified as Ifeanyi Nsiegbunam, 23, Chinemelum Nwafor, 27, and Nnamdi Nwakwesili, 40, were said to have dispossessed a student of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, of her belongings on Saturday.Items found and recovered from the suspects include one locally made single barrel pistol, a white coloured dagger, a big saw, a big hammer, a black and brown coloured lady’s bag, an Infinix phone, a black Panasonic phone and three phone chargers.
According to PPRO Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspects were almost lynched by the mob if not for the timely arrival and intervention of some police operatives at the scene.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Anambra Command, CP Echeng Echeng, thanked the public for the arrest of the three suspects and for their continuous assistance to the Police in the fight against crimes in the State, but he enjoined them to always follow the due process by handing over arrested suspects to the Police as that would afford the Police opportunity to conduct appropriate investigation and prosecution of suspects and ensure justice.
Ikenga said the CP had lthe assurance that the three rescued suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
