The Nigerian presidency has dismissed claims that the country was snubbed during the recent UN Human Rights Council elections.
In a statement, Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga clarified that Nigeria did not stand as a candidate in this cycle, nor did it in 2023. He explained that any votes mistakenly recorded for Nigeria were due to confusion during the secret ballot.
The elections, held on October 9, saw 18 new members elected, including Benin and Gambia. Onanuga emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to supporting endorsed African candidates to foster unity on the global stage.
