At least six operatives of Anambra’s Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), also known as Ndi Aka Odo, died in a fatal collision with a sand-loaded tipper truck along the Onitsha-Owerri expressway on Friday.
Eyewitnesses report the SASA vehicle, a speeding Toyota Hiace bus, rammed into the tipper near Oba, Idemili South, trapping victims in the wreckage.
Passers-by rescued the injured and retrieved over six lifeless bodies. However, public reaction was mixed, with some expressing relief due to growing anger over SASA’s controversial actions.
The Federal Road Safety Corps and police are yet to release official statements.
The incident has reignited calls to dissolve the anti-tout squad.
