In commemoration of the International Day Of the Girl Child observed on 11th October every, a Non Governmental Organisation, “Save And Secure The Child Initiative, The Campaign Against Child Abuse In Nigeria”, has extended it’s Outreach to female students of S S One of Capital City Secondary School, Awka.
There were series of interactive lectures, rangning from such topics as sexual violence, discipline, health, and sexual immoralities. .
In their opening remarks
Rotarian Nneka Aniemena and Rotarian Kingsley Obi, told the students that the purpose of the visit was to educate them what could make them better women, who would know their rights and be bold enough to stand up for them.
They cited the Aba Women Riot of 1929, led by 4 women, who protested the oppressive tax regime of the time, and encouraged the girls that they can also stand firm for what they believe in.
Other speakers at the event
include Rotarian Ngozi Nworji-Eke, Mrs Ifeoma Okolo, Mrs Chinwe Ikwunne and Rotarian Paul Anaezeofor who enlightened the students on some dos and don’ts that will help them grow into successful and fulfilled adults.
In hs closing remarks, the state Principal of the NGO, Rotarian Kingsley Obi, asked the girls not to be seduced into any form of sexual immorality by being flattered by the the opposite sex.
He told them that beauty is not an achievement and as such should not allow it get into their heads.
Highlight of the event was the distribution of some sanitary materials to the students and their teachers.
