Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for setting the price of petrol from the Dangote Refinery. Falana argues that NNPCL’s actions violate the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which mandates that fuel prices should be determined by market forces. He made this known in an interview with a journalist.
Falana questioned why petrol from the Dangote Refinery, produced locally, is sold at ₦950 per liter, while imported fuel is cheaper. He also emphasized that the Federal Executive Council directed crude oil sales to Dangote Refinery in Naira, not dollars.
Falana called for an end to NNPCL’s monopoly and urged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to intervene.
