The South East Governors’ Forum has decried the constant abuse of the
inter-state boundaries’ closure leading to an increase in the cases of Covid-19 in the Zone.
The governors made their feelings known in a communique issued after a teleconference meeting with some Igbo leaders and signed by the Chairman of the Governors Forum, Governor David Umahi.
The South East Governors’ Forum also reiterated that the “no mask, no
movement” policy, physical distancing, hands washing protocols and use of sanitizers remain in place, while more strategies will be adopted to strengthen the inter-state boundaries’ closure order.
They expressed commitment towards ensuring that at least five per cent of the region’s populations are tested for Covid-19 in the next two months.
The Forum also talked about plans to establish a stabilization fund for
Ndigbo as a post-COVID-19 era with special priorities given to education, health, agriculture, as well as small and medium scale
enterprises.
Another area that captured the Forum’s interest was the issue of unemployment.
The communique, therefore, appealed to the youths to visit the Ministries of Agriculture in their various states to become part of the various Agricultural programmes geared towards reducing hunger during and
after the pandemic.
While revealing that Imo State now has two testing centres and more coming up in Enugu, Anambra and Abia State, the Forum assured that the testing capacity for Covid-19 will thereby increase and lead to a more
robust action against dreaded viral infection.
