Suspected oil thieves on Thursay night abducted the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Federal Otokito at his residence in Otuokpoti, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

The kidnap is believed to be as a result of his opposition to their plan to set up an illegal crude oil refinery around the community.

Confirming the incident on Friday, spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the kidnappers stormed the residence at about 11pm and whisked the commissioner away in a waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.
Asinim added that the command had launched a manhunt for the rescue of the victim and the arrest of the suspects.
