The Anambra state SWAN Week came to a sporty end on Friday 10th December 2021. The week-long activities of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN involved courtesy calls, Stadium visitation, indoor and outdoor games with awards and gala night at La Cruz Hotel, Awka.
In a speech by the special guest speaker and veteran sports journalist Emeka Odikpo, Sportswriters were urged to write and report sports without sentiments. He emphasized the need to step up sports writing and reportage.
Odikpo added that if Sportswriters fail to report the poor condition of sports in the state, that there won’t be any SWAN to checkmate the activities of the administration with regard to sports activities and it will also ensure adequate sports facilities are provided in the state.
He further tasked the veteran Sports journalists to use their experiences in sports to teach the upcoming and young sportswriters good reporting and representing.
Present at the award night was Anambra sports development Commission (ASDC) Tony Oli, Anambra Independent football league ( AIFL) Rev Fr Coach Obinna Dike, Sports journalist veteran Foster Chime, YSFON Chairman Anambra state Engr Akonam Obiefuna, Vice President SWAN southeast Chigozie Chukwulota, table tennis Coach Bonny Akunna, among others.
