A teacher , Oluwabunmi Anani has been declared winner of the sixth Maltina teacher of the year award. The English language teacher of St Concordia College, Yola, Adamawa state received the award at the grand finale held recently in Lagos.
As the winner of the 2020 edition , Anani will receive a cash prize of 6.5 million naira, of which 1.5 million will be paid immediately while 1 million naira will be paid annually for the next five years. According to reports, the Nigerian Breweries Felix Ohiwerei will foot the bill.
She will also take part in an all expense paid capacity development training abroad and her school stands to receive a fully equipped computer laboratory or six classrooms block worth 20 million naira by the fund.
In his reactions, the Minister of State for Education , Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba appreciated the company’s effort in supporting the education sector .
Earlier, the Managing director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr Jordi Borrut Bel explained that the initiative was designed to recognise, celebrate and motivate teachers whose stories have become great reminders of their role in laying the foundation for a good society.
Anani who after emerging the winner was in high spirits, thanked the company for putting smiles on the faces of teachers through the initiative by rewarding and recognising them.
The first Maltina Teacher of the Year Initiative has produced six grand winners, with Rose Nkemdilim Obi from Anambra emerging first winner in 2015.
