Ex-Niger Delta Militant Commander, “Government Ekpemupolo,” popularly known as Tompolo, has said the Federal Government has failed to constitute a board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), after the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the minister of Niger Delta affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Tompolo, made this known in a statement on Friday, saying the people of the Niger Delta region are yet to see any tangible move towards the constitution of the NDDC board despite earlier appeals and promise of the minister to do the needful.
Noting that the people are agitated and that there is palpable fear and tension in the region, he advised his fellow agitators to avoid anything that may throw the peaceful region into chaos, reiterating his earlier position that the government should as a matter of urgency, constitute the substantive board of the NDDC to avoid impending uprising.
Recall that in a bid to douse tensions, a consultative meeting between major stakeholders from the region and Senator Godswill Akpabio held in Oporoza town, where a truce was reached and a June deadline agreed.
That deadline, however was not met, according to Tompolo.
