President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to cancel a planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest scheduled for next month.
Information Minister Mohammed Idris conveyed the President’s appeal after a meeting on Tuesday, asking protesters to await the government’s response to their complaints.
The protest, driven by economic hardship and gaining traction on social media, is set to take place across all states and Abuja in August. Tinubu emphasized there is no need for the demonstration, promising to address the issues raised.
Warnings against the protest have come from the National Orientation Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, and the House of Representatives, while the Nigeria Labour Congress and Senator Ali Ndume have called on Tinubu to respond to the protesters’ demands.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga cautioned that the protest could lead to destruction similar to the EndSARS protests in 2020.
