Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, has urged transporters in the state to be supportive of the state government in ensuring sanity in the transportation industry.
The deputy governor who gave the charge during an interactive session with transport stakeholders, urged them to always abide by all transport regulations especially this season for a hitchfree Christmas and New Year celebrations.
He drew their attention to the dreaded Coronavirus still ravaging parts of the world, stressing the need for both transporters and commuters to continue to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols to check the spread.
Speaking also, the Commissioner For Transport Mr. Afam Mbanefo, cautioned transporters against touting and other illegalities often associated with the industry, warning that state government would no longer tolerate those excesses.
He enjoined transporters to key into government’s zero tolerance to park indiscipline such as loading and off loading at unauthorised places.
Contributing, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, raised alarm over the resurgence of the Coronavirus and warned people to adhere to all covid-19 protocols especially as some citizens staying abroad would come home to celebrate Christmas with their kith and kins.
In a remark, a former President of the Urban Drivers Association in Anambra state, Comrade Paul Ejiofor, called on all hands to be on deck to bring sanity in the transportation industry.
In their separate remarks, the President of the Tipper Drivers Association in Anambra state, Prince Augustine Akaigwe, and another stakeholder in the tipper transport industry, Comrade Ogechukwu Ndozie, spoke of the need for the Federal Road Safety Commission to stop the issuance of drivers licence to under aged persons to drive tipper trucks.
