Amawbia community based in the U.S., under the auspices of Amawbia Town Union (ATU) U.S. Chapters, Amawbia Town Women Association, youths and ‘Umu Nwadiana’ have donated relief materials to 650 less endowed in Amawbia.
The items comprised 650 bags of 10kg rice, 650 bags of 5kg beans and 55 cartons of a litre of power oil.
Other items include 52 cartons of tomatoes, 33 bags of rice and N2, 000 stipends.
Traditional Ruler of the community, Igwe Chinyelu Nwora-Molokwu said that the gesture was as a result of his plea to them to bring succour to the less privileged in the community.
He emphasised that the stimulus package would help to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic, enabling them to put food on their tables over a period of time.
Okpaligwe thanked the group for their benevolence and magnanimity, especially for thinking home, urging others to key into the `Think home’ philosophy of the present political administration in the state as according to him, this is the time to bring relief to our people since collaborative efforts are needed to fight the pandemic.
Igwe Nwora-Molokwu tasked Ndi Amawbia and others on COVID-19 pandemic compliance, emphasising that the virus was still wrecking havoc as it was no respecter of persons, age, race, status or religion, as he urged all to hearken to the clarion call to contain the virus, insisting that face mask should be donned properly and not worn on the jaw.
Rev. Fr. Michael Onwukike, Parish Priest St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia thanked God for the good-spirited individuals who saw the need to alleviate the sufferings of their people while commending them for the gesture, prayed God to protect them as they were the worst challenged by Coronavirus pandemic.
Also, Ven. Chris Ogbodo of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia extolled Ndi Amawbia for their understanding.
The venerable, represented by Rev. Onyeka Onochie then thanked Okpaligwe and his cabinet members for sharing the palliative amicably while praying God to fortify his leadership with peace.
Lolo Justina Molokwu, wife of the Monarch noted that at the heat of the pandemic that they tried to assist the indigents hoping that the pandemic could have ended soon but to no avail then her husband wrote the ATU USA through a daughter of the soil, married outside the community who quickly mobilised financial support from them.
According to her, the group have also promised to organise free medical treatment for the people of Amawbia when COVID-19 subsides.
Chairman of the Relief Committee, Mr Akonam Okongwu said that the beneficiaries were selected by various kindred groups from the six villages of Amawbia including the non-indigenes to avoid controversy.
He then thanked Okpaligwe for giving them the opportunity to serve the community while praying God to replenish the pockets of the donors.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Adline Okoye praised Okpaligwe for initiating the move, and while thanking the donors for their kind gesture prayed God to protect, uplift and sustain them throughout their life endeavours.
