After weeks of legislative deadlock, the UK Parliament has finally approved Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s bill to deport migrants to Rwanda. Following Sunak’s pledge that deportation flights could commence in 10-12 weeks, the bill received approval early Tuesday, clearing the way for implementation.
The breakthrough came when the House of Lords conceded to the primacy of the elected House of Commons and withdrew its proposed amendments.
Sunak’s rare morning press conference emphasized the urgency of the proposal to curb migrant crossings in the English Channel, promising to keep Parliament in session until the bill passed.
This approval marks a significant milestone in Sunak’s efforts to address migration challenges, despite ongoing opposition from human rights activists and legal obstacles.
