Valentine Ozigbo, a respected Nigerian business leader and a leading governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed deep sadness over the devastating fire outbreak that ravaged parts of Onitsha late on Friday, March 28, 2025.

The inferno caused extensive destruction to businesses and properties in the state’s commercial capital, leaving victims with unimaginable loss of their livelihoods.

In a statement on Sunday, March 30, 2025, Ozigbo reacted to the development and expressed heartfelt sympathy to the affected victims, who are still reeling from the unfortunate incident.

The governorship aspirant described the disaster as a troubling recurrence and called for adequate measures to forestall future recurrences, especially in industrial areas prone to such incidents.

“My heart goes out to the hardworking men and women whose livelihoods have been disrupted by this tragic incident,” Ozigbo said.

“The recurring nature of such disasters in our state is deeply troubling. Anambra must prioritise proactive safety measures, particularly in high-risk zones like markets and industrial areas, to prevent future occurrences.”

“This is not the first time we are witnessing such a disaster. The economic and emotional toll on affected families is immense, and we cannot afford to be reactive. I urge the relevant authorities to implement stronger preventive policies, conduct regular safety audits, and ensure compliance across all sectors,” the respected business leader and philanthropist added.

Ozigbo, the founder of Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) Foundation, also called on the government and corporate stakeholders to provide immediate relief materials and compensation to the victims to help them get their lives back on track.

“In times like this, our unity and compassion as a people are tested. I appeal to the state government, private organizations, and good-spirited individuals to rally support for those affected. Let us demonstrate the resilience and solidarity that define Ndi Anambra,” the peace advocate concluded.
