The NNPC Limited has confirmed that the recently re-streamed Warri Refinery has been temporarily shut down for routine maintenance but will resume operations soon.
In a statement released by the Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC debunked reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), calling them completely false.
The statement explained that on January 25, 2025, operations at WRPC Area 1 were intentionally halted to carry out necessary maintenance on select equipment, including field instruments affecting steady production.
Despite the shutdown, AGO (diesel) loading has continued at an average of eight trucks per day, ensuring uninterrupted supply.
The 125,000 barrels-per-day refinery, which resumed operations late last year after more than 10 years of inactivity, is currently operating at 60% capacity.
