Wives of Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen in Anambra State have been enjoined to support the people at the grassroots, especially at this period of economic difficulties caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Wife of the Governor, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, gave the charge during her meeting with wives of the Councils’ Chairmen in Awka.
The meeting was part of the Governor’s Wife advocacy to ensure that the plights of women, especially the poor, at the grassroots are alleviated at this period of Coronavirus pandemic.
Dr Mrs Obiano reminded them of their duties to the people in their various localities and appealed to the wives of the Chairmen to appreciate the challenges facing such people with a view to giving succour to the needy and vulnerable in the communities.
She noted some of the needs of such people at this time to include items like face masks, food stuff, and to educate them on the need to adhere to government and other relevant authorities directives in the efforts to check the spread of the deadly disease in Anambra State.
Earlier, the Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mezue, extolled the Governor’s wife for always being committed towards the welfare of the citizenry.
The leader of the group and wife of the Transition Committee Chairman for Nnewi North Local Government Area, Princess Chinelo Orizu, who had applauded the Governor’s Wife for reaching out to them, noted that some of the wives of the Transition Committee Chairmen had already done some interventions at their various Council Areas, promising to do more.
