The much speculated Yoruba nation rally has been confirmed to hold today in Lagos despite repeated warnings by security agents.

This was confirmed by the umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, “Ilana Omo Oodua” (IOO), yesterday in a statement made available to journalists by its Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye.

According to Mr Adeleye, the rally will be peaceful and hold without any fear or intimidation.
Not leaving any stone unturned, the IOO, also wrote a letter to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu; copied to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Sanwoolu, by its General Secretary and Legal Adviser, Arc. George Akinola and Barr. Olasupo Ojo, urging the state Police Command to ensure that the rally is orderly and not hijacked by hoodlums as earlier implied by the police.

Stressing that their preceding rallies in Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Ogun States respectively went on without any hitch, the group also noted in the letter that it was the duty of the Police to safeguard their demonstration and protect them, as they on their own part, promise to cooperate with the police.

Recall that the DSS and the Lagos state police had earlier warned against the rally – promising to clamp down on the agitators; it is yet to see how they eventually respond to the new move by the IOO
