Yesterday, 9th June 2020, at about 6:am, aggrieved youths in Agulu town went on rampage and barricaded roads, protesting the sudden death of late Mrs Mgbeke Ezeagha, aged 80 years, of Ifiteani, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The youths alleged that her death was due to arrests made by operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-cult section (SPACS) following a tip off, and were persuaded to disperse peacefully through the joint efforts of the Police and community stakeholders.
According to sources, operatives of the Anti Squad Section came to the woman’s compound around 3 o’clock in the morning to arrest a young man, but the elder woman resisted the arrest. So one of the security operatives then pushed the woman with his elbow.
According to the report, the woman then fell on the pavement and the young man was taken away.
The report said by the time the woman was taken to hospital, she was declared dead.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, who is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident has ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter.
The CP further assured the public that justice would be done in the case and the outcome of Police investigation shall be made public.
