National Human Rights Commission, Anambra state chapter, yesterday visited the commissioner of police, Mr John Abang at the State Command headquarters, Awka.
The visit came at the heel of a rally which was part of their activities to mark a one week campaign against rape in Anambra state.
The state coordinator, Nkechi Flaura Ugwuanyi said the rally was to raise awareness against rape and make Anambra a rape-safe state.
She also used the opportunity to appeal to the CP to ensure discreet investigation of all rape cases in order to serve as deterrence to potential offenders in the state.
In his response , the Commissioner of Police, John Abang assured them of his maximum support towards realising their goal of making Anambra a rape free state.
He also emphasized that the Command under his watch will always partner with the Human Rights Commission and other stakeholders in order to enhance safety and security in the state.
In a related development, CP John Abang also met with hoteliers and discussed issues bordering on security in the state.
To ensure the security of clients, he urged them to install CCTV cameras in their premises and also do background checks on their staff as measures to enhance safety and security at their hotel premises.
