Anambra State Vigilante Services arrested eight suspected gunmen early Tuesday morning in Awka and nearby communities. The suspects were found with arms and ammunition.
Among them, three were intercepted at the Amansea boundary between Anambra and Enugu States. Four others, allegedly involved in phone snatching, were apprehended in Awka.
The arrests come in response to a recent wave of killings and kidnappings. Police have begun combing hospitality centers to locate other criminals.
The Commissioner for Homeland Matters, Chief Chikodi Anarah, confirmed the arrests but withheld some details for investigative purposes.
Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga reiterated the importance of hotel and bar owners monitoring their patrons to prevent harboring criminals.
