In Gashua, Yobe State, at least 20 people have died in the past two weeks due to house collapses caused by heavy rainfall.
The Executive Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Babagana Ibrahim, reported that around 3,000 residents are now displaced and taking refuge in three designated camps.
The local government is providing essential supplies such as food, medical care, hygiene kits, and clean drinking water.
However, Ibrahim has called for additional support from the federal government and donor agencies.
The ongoing rains have exacerbated the situation, causing further collapses, and cutting off the two federal roads leading to Gashua, complicating relief efforts.
The chairman has advised those living in mud houses to relocate to prevent additional casualties.
