Nigeria To Witness Heaviest Flash Flood September/October – NOA

Anambra residents have been warned to expect heavy flooding between August and October, this year.
The State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, Barrister Charles Nwoji, informed that the prediction was made by the Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Institute, Professor Mansur Bako Matazu, on 15th August, 2022, during a Training Workshop on Semi Security Management, organized in Abuja, for Directors of the Agency in the 36 States of the federation, and Abuja.
The State Director, while addressing members of the Association of Past Presidents-General of Town Unions (APPAS), said the event was part of the activities of the Agency in engaging Stakeholders on the urgent need for effective response to the current flood disasters across the country.
Barrister Nwoji, affirmed that the current flash flood in the country has resulted to tragic loss of lives, livestocks, building collapse, displaced residents and washing away of farmlands across the country, and appealed to members of the Association to use their influence as major Stakeholders to educate the people on the dangers of blocking water channels with refuse.
He also appealed to the residents to join efforts with the State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in his environmental campaign, especially in the area of proper refuse management.
The State NOA Director advocated immediate demolition of any building erected on water ways, calling on the people to form the habit of desilting drainages around them for healthy living.
The NOA boss further appealed to the Association to assist the Agency in propagating the message to the grassroots, especially to those living in the coastal areas.
Receiving the NOA Director and his team to the meeting, the National President, Association of Past Presidents-General of Town Unions, Chief Omeife Omeife, described the meeting as very apt, recalling that he lost one of his cousins to flood five years ago.
Chief Omife pledged the unwavering support of the Association to NOA, promising to take the message down to the grassroots for more awareness creation.
