Officer Killed As Gunmen Attack Imo Police Station With Explosives
Unidentified gunmen at the early hours of Saturday, 21st January, 2023, attacked Oguta Police station in Imo State, killing one mobile police officer (name withheld) and setting the station ablaze.
Reports said that on arrival, the attackers threw explosives at the police facility and opened fire on the men on duty.
The Imo Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye, who confirming the attack, said the gunmen were engaged by police operatives and were overpowered by the superior fire of the officers which forced the hoodlums to flee.
The Command however, informed that security operations are still ongoing to trail the hoodlums.
According to police, “Our operatives in the early hours of today engage some gunmen who battled Oguta Divisional Headquarters. The gunmen fled the scene due to superior firepower from the Police.
“Unfortunately, one of our personnel whose identity wouldn’t be disclosed for security reasons paid the supreme price.
Security operations are still ongoing in the area, further details will be communicated to the public,” Police said.
