Ogun State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old Senior Secondary School Student for allegedly poisoning the food of her guardian, Mrs Esther Bada.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspect, Tope Fasanya, was arrested following a complaint by the woman.

The PPRO said the victim reported that she was served food by her maid and after eating the meal, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach and became uncomfortable.

According to the police, when the pain was becoming severe, the woman called the maid to come and eat the remaining food, but she refused, which made her suspect foul play on the part of the maid.

The victim was quickly taken to a Hospital, while the suspect was subsequently arrested.

On interrogation, the suspect who initially denied the act later made a confessional statement that she actually added rat poison to the victim’s food.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been living with the woman since she was in primary three, and the woman was her class teacher then.

It was gathered that following the death of her father, the woman volunteered to help the girl and it was the victim that sponsored the suspect’s education up till her present class.

When asked why she decided to kill her benefactor, the suspect, who described the victim as a very caring person, said she only wanted to return to her mother and she could only do that if her guardian was no more.

The PPRO said state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect be arraigned at the end of police investigation.
