Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to intensify efforts towards achieving universal electricity access in Nigeria.
During a meeting with REA’s delegation at the Presidential Villa, Shettima emphasized the importance of expanding power supply to more Nigerians, noting the critical link between electricity access and financial inclusion.
He granted REA’s request to partner with the National Economic Council (NEC) to engage state governors in the electrification drive.
The REA also announced securing a $750 million grant from the World Bank and African Development Bank (AfDB) for rural electrification projects. Shettima encouraged the agency to improve its public relations efforts to better communicate its achievements and ongoing projects to the public.
Additionally, the Vice President directed the REA to collaborate with NEC and state governors to ensure their involvement in the electrification projects, stressing the need for their buy-in to succeed in electrifying communities across the country.
