South African police have uncovered a multimillion-dollar drug lab on a farm in Groblersdal, Limpopo province. Four people, including two Mexican nationals, were arrested.
Over the weekend, the police, along with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, discovered chemicals used to produce crystal meth and acetone, with an estimated street value of 2 billion rand, or 109.4 million Dollars.
National Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale highlighted the involvement of Mexican citizens, making the case particularly challenging. The suspects, including the farm owner, are set to appear in court on Monday.
The Hawks continue their war on drugs, having shut down 131 drug labs since 2019 and discovered 10 more this year alone. South Africa is noted as one of the world’s largest meth consumer markets.
