The Supreme Court has upheld the re-election of Hope Uzodimma as the Governor of Imo State in the November 11, 2023, governorship election.
In a lead judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Idris, the five-member panel dismissed the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Samuel Anyanwu and the Labour Party (LP) candidate Athan Achonu, ruling them as lacking merit.
Justice Idris affirmed the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which also dismissed the petitions challenging Uzodimma’s victory.
The appellants had failed to prove their claims of electoral non-compliance and forgery against Uzodimma.
