US President, Donald Trump has, on Friday, said he will not attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20, 2021.

This comes a day after Biden’s Electoral College win was certified by a joint session of the US Congress.
In post on his official Twitter handle, he wrote;
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,”

This comes after he had earlier issued a broadcast saying he’s now focused on delivering a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power, coming on the heels of the riot at the capitol, which has seen several members of his cabinet resign and a possible second impeachment looming.

Not since 1869 has an outgoing US president missed the inauguration of the incoming leader, a ceremony symbolizing the peaceful transfer of power
